METAPHOR AND PROCESS
THE WORK OF ROBERT CREMEAN

This production is a unique look at a genius, whose mind and exquisite sculpture provide for his audience an emotionally moving understanding of what art really is. . A verb...an experience, not a noun or an object. The video uses the words and work of Robert Cremean to provide viewers with an experience that may forever change how they see art.

Artist and philosopher Robert Cremean opens by discussing the Procrustus metaphor and how it relates to his work and the human condition. The program continues with rich imagery of his work and concludes with "ORATORIO", a moving segment using an event from the holocaust to illustrate the metaphor.

The piece was created to accompany an exhibition of Cremean's "Procrustes Trilogy". The accompanying music was composed and performed specifically for this work.

Elizabeth Thompson, the filmmaker of the PBS documentary "Blink" did much of the camera work. The Bank of America Foundation, as well as several patrons of the artist provided sponsorship for this project. It took 2 years to complete, and the raw footage was gifted to the Smithsonian's Archives of American Art. The running time is approximately 25 minutes
